Title: The top right menu don't display Home as default,....
Post by: midiweb on May 15, 2008, 03:06:43 PM
hi,
I have with the template "industry " a top right menu with the items: Home, Terms, Contact, Sitemap, About
But the problem, the first default page displayed is not Home but About when I enter the site.
I want the home page as default and not another.

Here is the index.php and the css sheet. How and where have I to change this?

Make sure to put the first page you want to show at the top of your list in the admin -> pages section of your site.

Hope this helps  :-D

thanks. Yes I know that, but I have two menus: one sidebar menu and a top menu and the pages for both are mixed.

In index .php, of the template industry1 the line for the top menu is:

<div class="gear"> </div>
                       <?php show_menu(1,0,1,true,'<li><span[class]>[a][menu_title] [/a]</span>','</li>','<ul id="nav">'); ?>

and for the sidebar:

...
               <div id="sidebar">
                   <div class="subtabs">
                       <?php show_menu2(2,0,1); ?>
                   </div>
</div>

I put the top menu in this order:

Home, Terms, Contact, Sitemap, About

and though the default page displayed is "About" and not Home

The menu is read from right to left.

maybe the CSS can change this problem?

or I have to change sth here but I don't understand the parameters.

<?php show_menu(1,0,1,true,'<li><span[class]>[a][menu_title] [/a]</span>','</li>','<ul id="nav">'); ?>

who can help me?
thanks

Hi,

just change in your css here:

#nav li {
   display: block;
   float: right;
   height: 20px;
   width: auto;
   text-align: center;
   line-height: 25px;
}

the float: right; to float: left; and look what happens.

Regards Bernd

Hi  :-)

Just a little note : you have to different functions to call up the menu. show_menu and show_menu2. Better to keep it either one, instead of both (as you have right now).

Just my two pennies  :-D

Greetz!

it works actualy good but the line is left aligned but "Home " ist now default. Why that? I don't know.

so it's:

Home, Terms, Contact, Sitemap, About

instead right aligned

                                                                                          Home, Terms, Contact, Sitemap, About

But you helped me also. Why not change the marging and/or the padding of the line to align it on the right

I try at once

Why that:
with float: right the order of your items is
... - third - second - first
and with float: left the order is
first - second - third
Maybe you have a look in a CSS Docu what float means.

Forget it, with margin and/or padding
give your #nav a text-align: right; that should do the trick

hi, I tried this trick but it works unfortunetly not.

text-align: right;

I understand clearly "Float".

Here the code for the navigation top menu.
I uncommented some tags intentionnaly.

body
{
   background-color: #fdfffc;
   font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-size: 10pt;
   padding: 0px;
   margin-top: 20px;
}

#nav
{
   width: 980px;
   height: 25px;
   /*border-bottom: 1px solid black;*/
   /*color: white;*/
   background-color:#990000;
   /*opacity: 0.8;
   -moz-opacity: 0.8;
   filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=80);*/
   position: relative;
   top: 0px;
   margin-left: 0px;
   /*left: 50%;*/
   margin-top: 0px;
   margin-bottom:0px;
   padding: 0px;
   text-align:right;

}

#nav li
{
   /*display: block;*/
   float: left;
   height: 20px;
   width: auto;
   /*text-align: center;*/
   line-height: 25px;
}

#nav li a
{

   /*display: block;*/
   padding-left: 12px;
   padding-right: 12px;
   color: white;
   text-decoration: none;
   font: normal normal normal 10px/20px "Lucida Grande", Lucida, Verdana, sans-serif;
}

#nav li a:hover
{
   background-color:;
   color: grey;
}

I found the solution:

you have to write in the main css code here :

display:inline;
and
text-align : right;

The navigation part in css:

#nav {
width : 980px;
height : 25px;
border-top : 5px solid black;
background-color : #c59856;
position : relative;
top : 0;
margin : 0;
margin-top : 0;
margin-bottom : 0;
padding-left : 0;
text-align : right;
}
#nav li {
display : inline;
height : 20px;

}
#nav li a {
padding-left : 19px;
padding-right : 12px;
color : white;
text-decoration : none;
font : normal normal normal 10px/20px "Lucida Grande", Lucida, Verdana, sans-serif;
}
#nav li a:hover
{
   color: #050100;
}

and finally I recommend to test your css with the validator css by www.w3.org.

Bye.
