Hi,

Quote from: Waldschwein...setting up a list. Like "XHTML / CSS Valid", "Displays in: IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, WebKit...", "Looks good positioned", "..."
That was how Chio has done the downselection of available templates as he started his Template showcase. He put an Excel file together with lots of information about available templates, pros- and cons, quality and much more. Maybe this "old" list is a good starting point.

This is a great idea.  It could be very helpful to have such a list for each template, with a particular focus on functionality rather than appearance.  As mentioned in other posts, the appearance/aesthetics of a template is a matter of taste.  But functionality can be critical.   Wouldn't it be great, for example, to know which templates have a fully functioning dropdown menu which displays correctly in all browsers! :-P

I am new here. When I try to download and decompress a template, it will not unzip or decompress. What may be the problem please?

A zipped template should decompress without problems. Please report faulty templates here.

But for use in WB template don't have to be decompressed, they can be installed in zipped format through the backend. Only if you want to change files within the template and work on them locally, you can decompress with any ZIP-compatible decompression software.

Some templates are really small. Did you install it? If that succeeds, the template is probably ok.

Hi,

Reply for my old post:

I solved this problem, because I found complete template-zip on web. The complete package is sized over 300 kt (or 400 kt).

You cannot install with that small package that WB site is offering, it won't work.

Hi,

not a bug but a comment on template Zenlike.

Zenlike uses it´s own PHP code to retrieve News from the WB news DB table. This code could be replaced with the Anynews in a future version.

Hello!

I think judging templates or add-ons by downloads is not that good.
The "best" idea is: Remove all templates (doesn't matter if people see it or just "behind the curtain") and then setting up a list. Like "XHTML / CSS Valid", "Displays in: IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, WebKit...", "Looks good positioned", "..."
And then count up from 0. If - let's say - at least 5 from 10 points appear "green", then all this templates are on a "to-do list" where the not reached points are either fixed or just mentioned.

Yes, Chios site is good, quite as it's for modules AMASP. But - both are no official sites, and we either have to display here on wb2.org good add-ons (modules, templates...) or just none. It would be no shame if there are no add-ons on wb2.org at all. ;-) Better none than no good ones, then a link to an external site would be much better.

Yours Michael

Hi,

Quote from: ArgosMaybe it's a better idea do it the other way around, to place all WB2.8 checked templates in a separate section. And tell on the templates repository that templates may be outdated and/or have errors if not in the WB2.8 section.
The most up to date overview of "nice" WebsiteBaker templates can be found at Chios site. Chio invested a lot of time to "convert" some of the "better" templates to a certain standard (e.g. remove warnings, fix some CSS issues etc.).

Bet most of the templates available on the Add-ons repository which were derived from other Open Source templates (like all Andreas templates) are "outdated". Checked a view of the "better" templates listed on the Add-ons repository and in about 85% of the cases, fixed or updated templates were available at the site of the original template author (e.g. adaptions for IE 7, 8 family etc.).

As I have learned:

these things are always a matter of taste.

Maybe we start the counter again and then throw the less or none downloaded out?

There are also lots of very ugly amateuristic templates available, that don't have anysthing special in design or function. Of course it's very subjective and you can't argue over tase, but maybe the baddest ones could just be deleted. They can give WB a bad image.

Hi,

thought it might be a good idea to start a list with buggy templates listed on the Add-ons repository. The list should help to find templates with problems such as outdated Anynews calls or usage of code snippets without checking if the snippet is installed resulting in a fatal error meassage or a white page.

Buggy template:
Template: Andreas01
Version: 3.00
Desc: Uses the outdated function call display_news_items instead of displayNewsItems

Feel free to report further buggy templates in this thread.
