Menu Disappears

I searched through the forums but haven't been able to find a solution that works. Essentially I have a search option that I have included in the template. Now every time I search, the my menu which appears on the left disappears. I have tried using the code <input type="hidden" name="referrer" value="<?php echo defined('REFERRER_ID') ? REFERRER_ID : PAGE_ID; ?>" /> in the template as well as the Search Settings however the menu still disappears.
