My first baked site http://www.fresh-web-design.co.uk

FreshWebDesign

Hi,

I've now moved the site to a neww address at http://addicteddesign.com this is because of the number of copycat companies that have appeared over the past 3 year since we started. A bit risky I know but it's a gamble I think may just work.

DGEC

Good job.   Hope I didn't sound like the voice of doom there.

On the upside - I like the new design and especially the header banner. Much "fresher".  Speaking of the new design... where are the templates now?

FreshWebDesign

Just an update for you....

The templates that i have left in FREE template section are all designed WITHOUT any copyright infringment on any third party.

As pointed out there was some templates there that had material that belonged to I Stock Photo. This is no more, those templates that infringed on copyright have now been removed.

If anybody would like to use them and convert them for WB, then feel free, belongs you release them into public domain and do not get any money in return.

After all, you have to look after the full community.

DGEC

See, that's what I was talking about.  You don't specify any kind of licenese, no attribute of the sources, etc.

Almost all the free stock photo sites still require you to acknowledge the source.

Even worse, you are definitely 100% in violation and legally liable if any of those are from istockphoto! Their stock are "royalty-free" not free.  :-o

http://www.istockphoto.com/license.php
Section 3(a) "For clarity, you may not use the Content in products for resale, license or other distribution, unless...."  and I don't think you qualify for an exemption.
Section 4(a) Prohibited Uses.
...
1. use the Content in design template applications intended for resale, whether on-line or not, including, without limitation, website templates, Flash templates, business card templates, electronic greeting card templates, and brochure design templates;

You better take that stuff off of there, immediately. Content providers like that don't mess around if you're caught... and your clients could be in touble too because of any of your viiolations.

FreshWebDesign

all the images as in photos etc are from royalty free sites such as istockphoto etc. There simply there just to get people to our site, but then theyd maybe want them customised.....

DGEC

Seems to be working well.

One question about the free templates: where did they come from?

There's absolutely no licensing information, copyright or anything else to determine what is legal to use and what isn't it.  Code is somewhat hard to nail down but those are obviously stock images.  People need to know this kind of thing or they could get into trouble.

FreshWebDesign

Hello people,

New features added to the site

go cart
bookmark
downloads manager

I've used the bookmark module to create a links category.

Ile keep adding so keep looking back

FreshWebDesign

It's the font thats the problem, I did have just a background with text links over them but it didnt look to good.

Ile have a look at the link, sounds interesting.

Thanks

DGEC

I cant use the standard menu current and menu default classes becuase i use a seperate image for each menu. If i could get it to remove the link from the menu when it was a that links page it would be highlighted. I could use blank images with dynamic wrighting on them then use the menu defualt class but i dont think this looks as good as the images.

I think you're under-estimating the power of dynamic memu & CSS. There's nothing on there that would be a problem for a text-less CSS background image. .

Unless maybe you're worried about the font, in which case, try using a dynamic replacement.
See http://www.alistapart.com/articles/dynatext/ for one example. Hopefully the generated PNG's have transparency set so your own background shows up.

Hi,

very nice design!

In Firefox 2.0.0.3, I dont´t see the captcha in your contact form. I only see the field for captcha input.

the Gifts and Prezzys site is oscommerce based. However its been extreamly ripped to pieces. Its been moddified left right and center. It doesnt use any template system or anything like that, its just core oscommerce styled using header and footer, as intended, I think oscommerce starts to slow down a bit when you start adding contributions to it.

I've sent the owner an email about the visitor stats error on the bottom, i hav'nt got access to it now its been handed over.

I forget what the tag is, but look at the menu class, I think either class="menu_current"
class="menu-expand menu-current", depends on what menu system you're using I think.

By the way, looks pretty nice. You should watch your pixel placement though - the different menu images are all off slightly... in different ways :-)

And the Gift's & Prezzy's site is generating an error, something about vistor table not existing and browser_ip = '10.65.135.123'

What did you use for the G&P's cart system?

FreshWebDesign

to have the page image at the top stay active when your on that page you would have to have the link removed from the menu when your on it,.... any ideas of how to do this anybody

Superb !
Very very nice design.

why did you decide to do not highlight the tab for the current page ?  :-D

Now thats something to do isnt it,.... it never even crossed my mind to be honest with you.

For your design it should be usefull.
I' told you that because I'm trying to have this feature on the theme I'm working on and didn't succeed yet.
See you,
Philippe

FreshWebDesign

its a design i'v used before on my site, we made it about 18 month ago or so but i get bored that quickly with the look of it....

im constantly popping designs out, i dont even know where they come from, i just seem to know where how and why.

It gave me a hard time getting it to look right in internet explorer, a seperate css sorted the problem though

burki

Wow... just great! I like the Design... CONGRATS

Stroke that one out as well ... sorry. I like the design!

Maybe just wrap the background around the footer as well. That's the only thing, that would bother me ... looks "hacked off" ;-)

cheers

its strange, sometimes the w3c website does that, most of the time insfact i just press refresh or revalidate and it works.

for whatever reason it says doctype not found and then it uses a default doctype..... i try to right all our sites using xhtml 1.1 strict.

do you like the new site?

it looks nice and everything ... just 1 issue ... you have it down as "Valid XHTML 1.1 Strict" ... but it doesn't validate. Brings up 3 errors. That is not very professional.

Just rechecked it, now it comes up as valid ... did you change the doctype declaration?

cheers

well spotted, sorted now though.

I was just adding the sitemap links as you replied.

looks great!!!
3 minor things:
I:the padding-left value you seem to use at "who we are" seem to differ from "fresh" & "our work"; the text is placed a bit (just a bit) closer towards the left border of your page (browser ff (2,0) at 1024x768)
II: sitemap: no padding at all
III: sitemap-xml: no page at all ;-)

anyway, impressing outfit!
