Good FTP Client

bowenmark

Gnome comes with an FTP client that runs on the GUI or command line called Gftp. I went to the Firefox addon page and there was a download waiting for my Linux distro so suspect that all Linux and Mac people can be okay with it:

@bowenmark: thank you for the info re: KDE. If I'm not mistaken, they are actually running plain Ubuntu - which uses Gnome (if I remember correctly).

Is there an ftp client that works both for KDE as well as Gnome? Would you happen to know if the FireFox add-on mentioned above work for Linux as well?

Any info is greatly appreciated! :-)

It would be good to know which Linux distro they are using, if it's a KDE desktop (comes with Fedora, also Kubuntu etc.) the KDE window manager has a built in ftp client. Simply open a new tab, type ftp://mysite.com and copy/paste the files from one tab window to the other. It's also got a good svn interface as well if you're using that.

Also for KDE, there is Kasablanca, just yum it. Every once in a blue moon I have to use that, not sure why some server setups barf Konq accessing it.

Ditto on FireFTP Firefox add-onn, I have found it very useful and easy to use.

For quick, free, simple FTP needs, I use the FireFTP add-on for FF. It running in a separate tab and has a nice GUI. It makes it very easy to upload or download and see the results in another FF tab. You can also open the local files for editing with your favorite editor.

Hello,

QuoteDo you know of a similar Linux client - something with a GUI?

No, maybe other users could give you a hint.

Hello,

for all win users a good choice is FileZilla

Free and easy to use.

Forgive me if this topic has been discussed elsewhere - I couldn't find it after doing a basic search through the forum.

I am a Macintosh user, and when I do a new installation of WB, I use the venerable "Cyberduck" as an ftp client. A couple of friends of mine, not at all technically minded, and to whom I've recommended WB, have asked me what ftp client I would recommend them to use. Unfortunately, they are not on a Mac. So, I thought I'd ask the WB community, what ftp client would you guys recommend to Windows and Linux users? The requirements are:

* has to be open source, and FREE
* has to be reasonably easy to use - to allow non-techies to upload WB to their hosting accounts...
